Spring is coming to a close and we are ready to get into summer fishing. Delta striped bass fishing should remain good through the month of June. The stripers made their way up the Sacramento River to spawn and will be making their way back down to the salt water this season. This becomes the time of the year when these fish can be caught both trolling and bait fishing. Finding the stripers can be the fun hunt because they are on the move and do not stay in one spot for long.
This year the sturgeon have stayed in the fresh waters of the delta.
Fishing for these diamondsides this summer could remain consistent if the
winds stay down. The ghost shrimp, mud shrimp and grass shrimps are the
best baits to use when fishing for these mighty creatures.
But, one sure bet in the delta for the summer is catfishing. As the water
warms these whisker fish get quite active and are not picky about their menu.
Catfish can be found from pan size to plenty 3 and 4 pounders to larger.
Fresh water clams put into a salt mixture to firm the clams can be very
productive bait but catfish will take any cut bait or worms.
July 16 the Sacramento River will open for salmon fishing making their way
up the river to spawn. It's time to get the spinners polished up and the
Flatfish working.
Summertime finds the Fish 'N' Fool IV at Richmond Marina. Live Bait
trips in the Bay for halibut and stripers or leopard shark fishing is the
excitement now and should remain through the month of September. In July
ocean salmon should get good.
The techniques we use to catch these salmon are mooching or light tackle
downrigger fishing.
The stripers and halibut are feeding on the live anchovies and sardines
presented to them. The leopards are feasting on midshipmen in the Bay.
September could bring some Albacore fishing if they show up like last year.
The season has begun. Book your trip early.
